Bill, Thanks for you comparison, observations and pictures. You have convinced me that going the repop route is the better option. I am ordering mine today. Jeff
Bill, I believe I sold it to Cork, he lives near Harrisburg Pa. I would bet he could repair one if you want. He gets on here from time to time. I don't know how the costs compare to the repro's but that would be for you guys to decide. Duane
"Is that CorkGS?" Oh yeah. Tell him to dust it off and start welding!!! Just let him know I said hi. Duane
Well, I went ahead and ordered one from TPP. The process there for shipping charges seems a bit odd and suspicious. You do not find out about the shipping charges until later. TPP's initial email receipt for the part purchase states that TPP will find the lowest shipping cost - probably because some Buyers are purchasing multiple parts - and group them together for shipping "economy". Well, that all sounds good, but on a $199 part, I got charged $110 for shipping from TPP in Chicago to Dallas, TX (a commercial address with regular daily routes from all the major Shippers. We'll see. I know the box is big, but the part is not that heavy. I have a friend who works at the same Shipping Co. as TPP used and I am going to weigh the package and measure it when it arrives and send the info to him to check and see if there was any crazy markup. Recap: the shipping charge from TPP ended up being a little over $25 higher than what UPS quoted me based on the stated (by TPP) weight and size measurements of the box I received .... which means they made that as profit as well as whatever mark-up exists on the part. There was minimal packing material in the box, certainly not $25 worth of materials.
It is a very large box. I still have mine. It actually could be a little smaller. I did find that it was cheaper to buy it from their eBay auction. I think it was $239.00 with free shipping. I’m not sure if they still offer that,or have an auction for it,but at the time, that was the way to go.
Shipping to me was $100 - not unusual for the size unless you use greyhound which is a hassle for a parts house. Le us know what your buddy says!
I used one on my car. Nice piece, easy install. I painted it with spray black enamel (used for painting appliances) and thought it was fairly close to original. Same for the core support and battery tray.
I used one on my GS 350... Fit right in, all of the holes aligned... I felt it was a very, very nice repro!
Isn’t ‘70 and ‘71-‘72 slightly cosmetically different? But maybe it’s just on the left side. And maybe a plant thing
