There were many threads helpful in me finding out how to replace rear wheel studs and the part # for them. I used Dorman 610-186 for the extended length and it’s perfect. But not for the front, to my surprise they are a completely different knurl size/length. Napa couldn’t help me find a matching one they claimed to have none. Does anyone have a lead on front extended wheel studs (about 1/4” longer than factory) for a 68 skylark custom? I can find factory replacements (Dorman 160-025) but not any extended. Thanks!
610-156. However, I don't think my front studs were stock when I replaced them, but they were 1/4" longer. All you have to do is measure the knurl and google.
I unsuccessfully tried to install 610-096, the stud knurl got jammed up on the way in and then strippped. I believe mine are factory and they dont look the same as yours.
I don't have a measuring tool like you, but the ones I replaced a 14mm wrench was close to the knurl. The heads has 752 stamped on them. Don't look at that other stud in the picture. That one was too small knurl wise.
Look like the studs I used were .026 in diameter larger in knurl than yours. I froze mine over night, used loc-tight, and pounded them in. The knurl and shoulder is shorter than your 610-096 but when I torqued the wheels, they held up just fine.
I ordered some online should arrive in a couple days. Loctight is a good call I should have used some when I did my rears but I didn’t think of that… just torqued them on super tight hopefully they stay on hah. Thanks for help I’ll keep you posted when they arrive.
New wheels as well. I actually drove it for about a year with the stock studs on new wheels even though the lugnut did not sit on the stud all the way… I ran it like that because with my factory wheels, to my surprise, it was very very close to the same amount that the lugnut sat on the stock stud, so I figured if it can do that for 56 years it would be fine. But still couldn’t sleep right knowing they didn’t sit all the way so finally got the extended studs. Rears replaced -just need to do fronts now but ran into the different size issue.
Glad I could help, however I could only relay information from my dad's help. Boy he has a big brain!
