I was watching a video on modern engine oils, and the chemical Boron kept coming up, it reminded me of Sohio gas stations from the 70’s, they had names for their different grades of gas, but couldn’t remember all of them, then found this pic. Anyone remember all the names? Was it Boron, Octron and Cetron??
I posted this thread this morning and didn’t think to proof read it, autocorrect had “Ships” instead of “Sohio”
I used to print the maps for Sohio Tag line they used "Get boron with double ice guard or Sohio will pay your tow"
I remember the radio commercials, “No fuel line freeze up or Sohio pays your tow” I was 5 or 6 when I heard this commercial thinking “ why would they pay for my TOE”
I remember the green Cities Service signs. They were eaten by another oil company and became Citgo. I meant to mention that first the Cities Service sign and then the later Citgo sign which is clearly visible over the left field wall at Boston's Fenway park, is on the register of historic landmarks. It's also a brilliant placement - the value of the free TV advertising it gets them is probably in the tens of millions of dollars over the years. Citgo does have to pay rent on the sign's location, though.
